WASHINGTON/TEL AVIV – It started with a blast in the early hours near Syria’s border. A strike, allegedly Israeli, left top Iranian commanders dead. Iran promised revenge — and by nightfall, rockets were already flying into northern Israel. By morning, the conflict wasn’t just regional anymore. It was global.

And now, Donald Trump is stepping in.

The former U.S. president said late Sunday that he’s meeting with his national security team “immediately” to assess the situation. While he's no longer in office, Trump’s decision to speak out — and call a meeting — is raising eyebrows in Washington.

"This is not just a Middle East problem," Trump told a small group of reporters outside his New Jersey estate. "This is a world problem. And we’d better get our heads in the game."

The comments come as the White House remains largely quiet. President Biden hasn’t made a formal statement yet, but sources inside the administration say they’re monitoring the conflict “hour to hour.”

 The Situation on the Ground

On the Israeli side, the Iron Dome defense system lit up the skies over cities like Haifa and Safed. Locals spent the night in shelters. Israel has already hit back with airstrikes — some in southern Lebanon, others in Syria.

The Israeli military confirmed it targeted “Iranian-backed positions” but stopped short of naming Iran directly.

Across the border, Iran's response has been more symbolic so far — angry press briefings, warnings of retaliation, and TV anchors declaring “Zionist aggression will not go unanswered.” But few expect that to be the end of it.

Israel Isn’t Backing Down

Prime Minister Netanyahu gave a short, stern address earlier today. “We didn’t start this. But if it continues, we will end it.” His words were sharp, and the military is clearly preparing for more.

Trump’s Role? Symbolic — But Loud

Is Trump holding power here? Not really. But in typical Trump fashion, his voice is grabbing attention — especially from U.S. conservatives who see Biden’s silence as weakness.

He’s expected to meet with several former generals and intelligence officials — names he trusts from his time in office. There’s no official plan, but that’s never stopped Trump from inserting himself into the world’s biggest headlines.

 Markets React Fast

Oil surged nearly 5% overnight. European markets opened shaky. And shipping analysts are already warning about potential disruptions if the conflict hits any major trade routes.

 What Happens Now?

Nobody knows how far this will go. Iran could retaliate with force. Israel might double down. The U.S. might step in, or it might stay on the sidelines. But this much is clear: the fuse is lit, and everyone is watching to see where the sparks land.
