Covid-19 Update: Delhi Reports 294 Active Cases & 1 Death – No Need to Panic
Delhi is witnessing a slight rise in Covid-19 cases again, according to the latest update from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). As of today, the national capital has reported 294 active cases and one death.
The reported death involved a 60-year-old female with Acute Intestinal Obstruction Post Laparotomy, and Covid-19 was found as an incidental finding, meaning it was not the direct cause of death.
Delhi Government Issues Health Advisory
On May 23, the Delhi Government issued an advisory urging all hospitals to ensure adequate preparedness. This includes:
-
Sufficient bed availability
-
Stock of essential medicines
-
Functioning oxygen supply
-
Readiness of life-support systems like ventilators and BiPAP machines
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta addressed the media and reassured citizens:
“There is no need to panic. Our hospitals are well-equipped. We have analysed the situation, and we’re fully prepared to handle any increase in cases.”
NB.1.8.1 and LF.7: What Are These New Variants?
The surge in Covid cases across India is being linked to two newly emerging sub-variants – NB.1.8.1 and LF.7. These variants carry genetic mutations that make them different from previous strains.
However, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), they are currently categorized under “Variants Under Monitoring” — not “Variants of Concern.”
ICMR’s Stand: Stay Alert, But Don’t Worry
Dr. Rajiv Behl, Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), stated:
“The severity of these cases is generally low. There’s nothing alarming as of now. People should follow routine precautions. There’s no need to take any special action right now.”
✅ Final Take: Stay Cautious, Stay Calm
While the numbers have risen slightly, experts and health authorities are not treating it as a serious threat at this point. The message is clear:
-
Remain informed
-
Follow basic hygiene
-
Avoid panic
With systems in place and proper medical infrastructure, Delhi is prepared to manage the evolving Covid situation.
